The Perfect Hard Boiled Egg
INGREDIENTS
Eggs
Water
Pot with Lid
Bowl
Ice
NEXT LEVEL TIP:
Letting the Eggs and water sit together at room temperature for about 10 min will help them acclimate and get closer to the same temperature. This will help give a more even cooking process throughout the eggs.
Directions:
Place Eggs in pot, no more than two layers worth.
Fill pot with water till the eggs are completely submerged,
Place Pot of Water and Eggs on stove and turn to high heat.
Once water has reached a rolling boil, place lid on and turn heat off.
Leave Covered for about 9-14 minutes. (Amount of time will vary on the elevation you are at)
While Eggs are cooking create an Ice bath, about 70% Ice to 30% water, in a bowl big enough to hold the eggs ice and water.
Remove Eggs promptly from hot water and place in Ice bath. MUST BE AN ICE BATH TO SHOCK THE EGGS AND STOP THE COOKING PROCESS.
Let cool completely, Peel under slightly warm water, and enjoy.
NEXT LEVEL TIP:
If the yolk is green or grey after cooking it mens it has been over cooked and will smell more like sulfur. Cook times will vary on your elevation, but once you find your perfectly cooked egg, that timing will be like clock work as long as you stay near that elevation. When you are moving to a new kitchen its always good to do some test runs, not only is the environment different but cook tops, ovens even toasters all have their own hot spots and unique quirks to learn and cook with!
