Harissa Hummus
INGREDIENTS
1 15 oz Can Garbanzo Beans
2 Tbsp Tahini
2 Garlic Cloves
1 1/2 Tbsp Coconut Oil or Olive Oil
1 Lemon, Zest and Juice- about 3 Tbsp Lemon Juice
1/2-1 Tbsp Harissa Spice Blend (depending on how spicy you want it)
Olive Oil as needed
Kosher Salt as needed
NEXT LEVEL TIP:
We are using coconut oil in this recipe for two reasons. First the flavor, the coconut oil has a nice sweet nuttiness to it that lends its self really well to both the smokey and spicy flavors of the harissa. Also it has a higher melting temperature, meaning that if it will give a creamier texture to the hummus as well help hold the emulsification at room temperature.
DIRECTIONS
Strain the Garbanzo Beans, reserving the liquid.
Add half of the reserved Liquid to the blender with a pinch of salt.
Now add Tahini, Lemon Juice and Zest, Coconut Oil, Garbanzo Beans, and Harissa.
Blend until smooth, adding any of the remaining liquid to reach the consistency you desire. The more liquid you add the looser the hummus will be.
Salt to taste, and serve with a light drizzle of Olive Oil and a pinch of Harissa.
NEXT LEVEL TIP:
Be sure to have add all of the liquid ingredients to the blender first. This will not only help with an easier blend, but it will also help with consistency of the hummus. Not having to stop the blender often will help keep the hummus light and fluffy.
